RasputinRasputin (Grigori Efimovich), a Russian peasant, claimed to hold mystical powers capable of curing every illness. Nicholas and Alexandra allowed Rasputin entry into the imperial apartments. As she sought to keep her ailing son alive, Alexandra fell under the spell of the pernicious monk. Mystical or not, Rasputin's presence transported the young Tsarevich Alexis into a stupor which stopped his profuse bleedings.
